Glossary

In alphabetical order. Search using CTRL+F.

Most of these terms are informal; they’re rarely if ever used in official material, but appear frequently on the forums and in user profiles.

Acronym for the Auction House.

B/S/T

Buying/selling/trading. Often seen in thread titles & can be removed or swapped out as needed.

coli

Short form of the Coliseum.

CR

Refers to the Crossroads and transactions faciliated by it.

dom

Short for dominance. Often used in the context of "dom battles" or "dom raffles," user-run events to enliven the weekly competitions.

double

A dragon with two of the same color.

elim

Short for battle stone Eliminate. One of the site’s most useful items.

fam

Short for familiar.

FF

Acronym for Festive Favors.

firstgen

A dragon without parents, either because it’s a progenitor or was hatched from an egg.

related: G1 & G2, progen

fodder

Dragons intended for exaltation. In the context of "baldwin fodder," items that have no better use than transmutation.

FR

Acronym for Flight Rising.

G1 & G2

Denotes a dragon’s generation. Rarely used past the second generation.

g/kT, g:kT

Shorthands for the two currency types, gems (G/g) and treasure (T; kT = 1,000). The ratio, denoted by the colon, can fluctuate.

For example, a dragon or item selling for "15g/kT" can be purchased for either 15 gems or 15,000 treasure. If a user is valuing 1 gem at 1000T, they could write it as 1g:1kT or 1g:1000T.

hatchery

A user-run dragon sales shop, usually featuring two or more designated breeding pairs.

hibden

Short for hibernal den.

IF

Acronym for in-flight, activities exclusive to members of a certain flight.

Could also just be "if" in all caps. Context is key.

lore

Catch-all term for fictional development within the world of Sornieth. Can refer to official materials such as those in the Encyclopedia or users’ own writing.

lvl

Short for a dragon’s Coliseum level. Lvl25 maximum.

If you’re familiar with Pokémon or similar RPGs, this will look familiar.

MP

Acronym for the Marketplace.

OOF

Acronym for out-of-flight, activities open to members of all flights.

Could also just be "oof" in all caps. Context is key.

PA

Acronym for Private Auction, an auction only visible by the seller and recipient.

progen(s)

Short for progenitor(s). Your first two dragons; "custom" is the one whose colors you choose upon joining, and the other is "random."

RAF

Short for raffle. May also be marked with an [R] alone.

scry

Refers to the Predict Morphology feature, because no one wants to type "morphology" every time. As a verb (ex. "scrying and crying"), refers to the act of making a dragon on this page; as a noun (ex. "here are my dream dragon scries"), refers to the image generated.

skincent

Refers to a Custom Skin that covers over 30% but under 100% of a dragon. Can also be used as a catch-all for both skins and accents.

triple

A dragon with three of the same color.

XYZ

Alongside XXX, XXY, XYX, and XYY, shorthand for dragon primary/secondary/tertiary color patterns; the letters indicate what colors match where.

For example, if your dragon’s colors are Black and Grey, XYX = Black/Grey/Black and XYY = Black/Grey/Grey.

protip

Why’s this dragon called cryface? Looks happy to me…

Gene combinations are often shortened using the first 3–4 letters of their name. For example, a starcon dragon has the primary gene Starmap and the secondary Constellation, and an irishim dragon has Iridescent/Shimmer.

Not all gene names are shortened, and I’m not going to list all the prefixes and suffixes here. But if you ever encounter a term like piepain (Piebald/Paint), see if the words ring a bell in the scrying workshop!
